New Business Card and Water Mark

Well here it is folks, my newly designed card and Water Mark. RedgwellPhotography, freezing moments and capturing time. I did it all by myself and I am pretty proud of myself!

I have been thinking pretty hard about my next step and as I was doing that I received a facebook message. This was a message I was thrilled to get because I haven't really advertised my photography to much. It was a recommendation! I will be heading out west in April to do a wedding photo shoot. I am so excited about it! I will do a blog post on it shortly after I have finished it.

I am still preparing to do the lighting workshop in Calgary and I am hoping to pick one more. Not really sure what though. I think it will be good for me to get out and meet other people who are in the same field. I enjoy the company and hope to learn from others a the same time. I think it is much more solid then books all the time.

Over the last little while I have made allot of system upgrades. I purchased a new laptop, computer, CS4, a wacom bamboo and a brand new Canon printer. Subscribed to a few magi zines to keep up with things.

Cant wait for the coming year. I am thinking about a contest of some sorts, I'm not sure how well they work or what my idea would be behind it. A possibility for sure.

Meanwhile, I have a dinner for 70 people at the Elementary School tomorrow. I am cooking ham and scalloped potatoes, Greek salad, homemade buns and fruit fondue for dessert. It is going to be really good! I hope everyone enjoys it.

Any ideas for a contest ?

Wedding In May with Family!

I traveled to a little town outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba, in May of 2009. It was my cousins wedding and my daughter Keira was the flower girl. It was great to meet new friends and catch up with family I haven't seen in years. I took the photographs for her and her husband. It was and honour! Quilting is a major component of my heritage. I had to get a picture of the shoes ,along with the pearls she wore , on an heirloom quilt. It was a great time and the weather was very nice. The bride ended up getting cooked like a lobster!

Well, I have decided that I need to create a new letterhead. One that people will look and and say " Oh that's RedgwellPhotography". I have no idea how to do that ! I am hoping to get a good book asap! Any suggestions? I have got to buckle down and concentrait on how I want to portray myself as a photographer? What will set me apart and how do I make it mine? These are all big questions to be answered. I feel like a baby learning to walk!

Is Anyone There?

I am slowly getting the hang of this blogging thing! Have no clue if anyone is reading it, but I'm hopin. I appreciate being able to come down to my computer, let the kids attack each other, write peacefully into the night, yeah right!! I actually have decided a few things about the path I am taking. I carry fear with me!! Not a bad thing though, it is a motivation for me. My one year plan in a nut shell, Photography, the end.

The Pictures above are from an engagement photoshoot I did for a friend in Calgary, Alberta. A cute idea from the future bride! She is from here and Her man is from Ireland hence the mountie and the lepricaun... I had so much fun that day. We really just farted around and got amazing shots. They are a very playful couple, destined for an excitement filled life.

I am trying to decide which classes I would like to take to gather information. After dealing with a bridezilla of sorts ( food not photography), I am putting my foot down, I will not write a 4 page apology either! I am totally worth putting my effort in to. What was I talking about? Oh yes, classes. So I think I am going to go to one being held in Calgary. A friend of mine, Jenny Jardine, is helping with. It is all on lighting which will benefit me greatly. I hope the dates will work out in my favor. The teachings are of the great Tri-Coast and its on TTL flash systems for NIKON and Canon cameras. Yeah! an exciting decision for me.

I just love photography and people and art so It fits. I have lots of equipment to keep me busy. I have my two weddings booked for the summer. Things are looking up!

Bring on The Salsa!

I know that I have promised my salsa recipe and here it is. This is a huge thing for me! I usually don't give away my favorite recipes. I figured why not, I'm not the only one in the world eating it and it is probably the same as someone elses.

30 tomatoes peeled and chopped
2 green bell peppers
2 red bell peppers
10 cups chopped onions
10 cloves garlic
4-5 yellow banana pepper or 1 cup chopped jalapenos
1/2-3/4 cup sugar
2 cups vinegar or lemon juice
8 teaspoons pickling salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
2 large cans tomato paste

Simmer 1 1/2 hr, stirring often, at the end of cooking time add 1/2 bunch of cilantro if desired.Jar and process, 35 minutes for pint jars and 45 minutes for quart jars.Makes about 17 pints

It really is good and doesn't last long around my house so I hope someone will enjoy it.
